In the 1950s the question of how sex education should be imparted touches on entrenched gender roles, traditional pedagogical methods and the relationship to the body: with the help of twee illustrations, ›poisonous pedagogy‹ is conveyed.
Stories of bodies and their union are clandestine because, on the one hand, youths must be educated in order to be admitted to the circle of young adults; on the other hand, this education takes place in a language that simultaneously enforces silence on the subject, that is cloudy and shallow, that is replete with imagery of birds and bees, seeds and storks, playing footsies and little mirrors. Sexuality is mystery.
